Billboards are an excellent way to advertise.
There are a few important things to focus on when advertising this way.
- Who are you trying to reach? Location,
location, location! Find a billboard location where your
target audience will find you.
- Follow the "Keep It Simple" rules of design.
Some excellent graphic artists in every other media design horrible
billboards. Fancy is rarely effective on a billboard.
Try to keep the maximum number of words to seven. Use heavy
contrasting colors.
- When you think you have a good design, print
it out, hang it on your wall, and walk past. Your final
approval should be from this distance.
- Check prices, billboards can vary greatly
from company to company. Ask for extras, like free or reduced
production for a lease term or free or reduced lighting.
- Do research and speak the language. As
in any industry there are terms that are used just for the trade.
Knowing these terms will make a difference for you.
