 Things To Know  Applications
Billboards are an excellent way to advertise.  There are a few important things to focus on when advertising this way.
  1. Who are you trying to reach?  Location, location, location!  Find a billboard location where your target audience will find you.
  2. Follow the "Keep It Simple" rules of design.  Some excellent graphic artists in every other media design horrible billboards.  Fancy is rarely effective on a billboard.  Try to keep the maximum number of words to seven.  Use heavy contrasting colors.
  3. When you think you have a good design, print it out, hang it on your wall, and walk past.  Your final approval should be from this distance.
  4. Check prices, billboards can vary greatly from company to company.  Ask for extras, like free or reduced production for a lease term or free or reduced lighting.
  5. Do research and speak the language.  As in any industry there are terms that are used just for the trade.  Knowing these terms will make a difference for you.  The Outdoor Advertising Association of America has a page to help get you started.
